Litter Robot

The Litter Robot, a self-cleaning cat litter box, automates a process that many cat owners consider the biggest drawback to having a cat. Created by Automatic Pet Care Products, Inc., the unit is attractive and modern with features that significantly reduce the time and energy that cat owners must put forth to maintain a sanitary litter area for their cats. The company sells a standard Litter Robot II model and the Litter Robot II Bubble, which has a clear window on the globe that adds light and space. Refurbished versions of both models are also available.

Seven minutes after the cat leaves the box, the cleaning process begins. The orb-like top of the Litter Robot automatically rotates, sifts out the clumped litter, and deposits it into the drawer at the bottom of the litter box. The orb then rotates back to the standard position in preparation for the cat's next visit.

The slow pace of the automated sifting ensures that dust from the litter is minimized. The waste drawer conveniently uses ordinary plastic bags, such as those used for kitchen trash cans, and keeps used litter and associated odors contained. The unit requires an owner's attention far less frequently than a simple pan since it removes the used parts of the litter after each use and keeps the used litter sealed in the waste drawer, which can hold several days' worth of used litter.
