Sandi-lee Permall
I am Sandi-lee Permall, I’m significantly shorter than most women my age and I have always dreamt big. Now 22 years old, I finally have the chance to fulfil my goal of being a professional make-up artist. With an eye for all things beautiful I aspire to be as big as cosmetic giant MAC one day and open up her own store in Los Angeles. The first step to achieving this dream is to getting some wheels so I can start visiting clients and build up clientele.
Born with bone disorder called Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) I have been in a wheelchair for most of my life. OI, otherwise known as brittle bone disease is mostly caused by weak bones, loose joints, spinal curvature and poor muscle tone. Despite numerous fractures, restricted physical activity, and short stature, most adults and children with OI lead with productive and successful lives, I have a severe case of OI, which effects one in 20,000 births. Sadly, there is currently no cure for OI and I will likely never be able to walk, and depends on my electric wheelchair to get me places.
Being in a wheelchair and being disabled has affected my quality of life, but I am optimistic that it won’t affect my career opportunities.
