Taffia, a devout Christian, holds many titles, wife, daughter, mother, sister, auntie, bestie, and Nana. Not being defined or limited by the titles, I am an ever-evolving woman because I continue to empower myself by learning in growing. My acquired knowledge has given me the power to live better today than I did on yesterday. Born in Florence County, South Carolina in the year of 1968 in the small town of Pamplico 2 generations removed from slavery. Our family migrated to the north where I was raised most of my life. Returning to our hometown of Florence short of my completion of my senior year of High School, I completed at Hannah Pamplico High School with the class of 1987. As a mother of two I continued my education at Florence Darlington Technical Collage and worked many entry-level positions including the fast-food industry. Although I was hired as a cashier I often was scheduled as the prep-person which kept me off the front line. Often criticized and spoken to as though I was worth anything, I made the best of my day. One day I asked, “why did you even hire me?” Them being sarcastic answering “so you can get experience so you can find another job.” I nodded in agreeance and said “thanks for the helping hand” leaving them puzzled. This was not my first encounter with a person’s personal prejudices, but it was the one that ignited the drive to transcend. I became focused on excelling. I became indispensable. There were many obstacles that I had to overcome to be achieve the level of excellence I desired. Many of them I had to work out from within. Many mistakes were made life lessons. That is what has brought me to the place that I am in now. In this book you will see how I stop existing and began living. You will see the person I left behind, meet the person I am now, and hear about the person I am striving to be. I am in no way an expert in living life, but I am skilled, and I have the battle scars to prove that you can put living back into life.
