StrengthsQuest:Of my top 5 strengths I choose positivity. Positivity means always smiling, seeking to brighten other people's days and focusing on the good aspects of situations. I identify with this strength the most partially because people have encouraged me and told me it is a strength of mine (I got the senior superlative "most likely to brighten your day") and it comes easily to me to look for the good in people and situations. I believe I have been gifted with positivity and it is not something I have to work for. It helps with my academic career because I can bounce back from failure quickly and failure develops perseverance as opposed to hurting my self-worth. It impacts my personal and social life because I am able to make friends easily because I see their strengths (and don't focus on their weaknesses)
A Letter to Myself:The activity was to write a letter to myself in which I outlined what my college search process was, why I picked Ohio State, what I want to get involved in at Ohio State (socially and academically), and how I feel about graduation. Through this assignment I learned about myself, especially pre-college. I also learned the importance of reflection through this assignment and class as a whole. Later in life, self-reflection will help me a lot because it is always important to look back and see what I struggled with, what victories I had, and how I can apply what I learned through those things to my current circumstances in life.
Lessons from a First-Year Buckeye: This assignment also had a big element of reflection, as it was to outline: what I would have done differently my first year of college, challenges in college, my expectations and how they've differed from reality, and the biggest piece of advice I would give an incoming freshman. I learned again the importance of reflection but also documenting important transitions in my life. Coming to college has been a huge transition and now I have this paper to look back on, to offer advice and use my experiences to guide my friends that are incoming freshman. Even though my freshman year seems like a big deal now, a lot of these memories will fade, and this paper will help me remember the important ones.
