Lixin Liu

Serving as a Lab Manager in wine genomics since 2007, Lixin Liu holds a position at the Wine Research Centre at The University of British Columbia in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. A manager for day-to-day lab operations, Lixin Liu assumes responsibility as the liaison for the many labs and agencies within The University of British Columbia's academic system. In this job, Lixin Liu participates in projects for Genome British Columbia and Genome Canada, designing RNAi vectors, GEP- or Myc-tagged fusion vectors, and other vectors by cloning. Using polymerase chain reaction (PCR), he adds or eliminates restriction sites from the coding sequence. He is skilled in both Vector NTI and CLC bio Workbench software. An important contributor to the safety of fellow personnel, Lixin Liu ensures that lab procedures comply with the school’s regulations for chemical and biological safety. Lixin Liu formerly served BASF Plant Science as an Associate Scientist. Working with the international chemical company’s location in Ames, Iowa, he isolated a mutated enzyme in a starch synthesis pathway, built transformation vectors, and handled the identification of transgene insertion sites by genome walking. Additionally responsible for BASF’s yield and low phytate project, Lixin Liu researched and collected important patent information. Lixin Liu holds a Master of Business Administration from Iowa State University, and a Master of Science in Plant Molecular Biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. A native of China, he completed undergraduate study at Nanjing Agricultural University in Nanjing, China, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture. In his personal time, Lixin Liu reads the classics and plays volleyball. He additionally enjoys live theatre, museums, and art galleries.
