Elizabeth Calderwood
Teacher in New Jersey
I became a teacher in order to share my love for learning and science with young eager minds.
I am a 7th grade science teacher and technology resource teacher at Southern Regional Middle School in Manahawkin, NJ. I started teaching in 2002 and have been focusing my efforts on the effective use of educational technology in the science classroom since 2011. In December 2013, I became an Edmodo Certified Trainer and Edmodo Ambassador in the first cohort. In 2014, I became the co-organizer of TeachMeetNJ (www.teachmeetnj.com) – a free educational technology un-conference for teachers and administrators. Un-conferences throw away the formalities of traditional conferences so true learning and collaborating can happen. Also in 2014, I became an organizer for a regional conference called ECET2NJPA. ECET2 (Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teaching and Teachers) is a conference that provides a forum for exceptional teachers to learn from one another and to celebrate the art of the teaching profession.
I enjoy presenting and sharing the lessons that I have learned about working in a limited technology environment and on other various educational technology topics. I have presented on these topics at EdmodoCon 2013, the NJ Science Teachers Convention 2014, and as an ISTE Live 2014 Presenter and 2016. I have also received different forms of recognition from my district for my efforts and passion for sharing with my colleagues. In 2013 I received the district nomination for NJ State Teacher of the Year and as the 2014 nominee for the Princeton Distinguished Educators Award.
