I am asking for your vote to re-elect me, Liza Parkinson, as YOUR UEA President.
Together we have navigated the worst decade in public education in Michigan’s recent history. Throughout my 32 years of experience as a parent, educator, and union leader I have developed a comprehensive and well-rounded perspective of public education.
As a parent of three children with varying educational needs, I have witnessed the many facets that go into educating the whole child. From fine and performing arts to athletics, and from special education to AP programs, I have witnessed countless educators influence my children’s lives.
As an educator, I have high regard and thoroughly understand of all that you give to your students day in and day out. I know you do not show up to punch a clock for 184 days. I appreciate how very personal teaching is, and the sacrifices that you make for our students. This is not just a job, it is a vocation, a craft and a calling.
As a union leader, I possess the creativity, dedication, and the work ethic to improvise and strategize to meet unknown challenges. One of my greatest points of pride as your president has been working with YOU to re-build support, awareness, and engagement within our parent community. Additionally, I have built a solid foundation of professional working relationships and established our UEA network at the local, county, state and national levels.
Despite the never-ending battles, I am still here for you. I am still advocating for you. Most importantly, I am determined to continue leading our fight in the war defending public education against our enemies near and far.
