Lizzie Russell
Vilnius, Lithuania
Welcome to my world of wandering and discovering the planet!
My name is Lizzie (Elizabeth/Elžbieta/Leebitz), and I’m an unusual 18 year-old girl. I had a typical childhood, growing up with a loving family, receiving a fantastic education, living a comfortable and happy life…. But following my high school graduation, I decided to take a less conventional path, postponing college for a year to move to Lithuania by myself and travel Europe. Why Lithuania? Well, why not Lithuania? Not only has my time here opened my eyes to the world, helping me appreciate all the beautiful cultures, histories, people, and countries our planet holds, but it’s made me appreciate my home in South Florida. Interestingly, travel makes one realize more about where they came from than where they’re going.
To gain a little more insight to who this landloping Lizzie is, below are a few facts about me.
I…
1. Have traveled to six continents (not yet Asia – I’ll get there soon enough!).
2. Went for a swim in Antarctica.
3. Speak Lithuanian and English (and am working on many more languages).
4. Hunted with the Hadzabi tribe in the Tanzanian bush.
5. Starred in an advertisement while studying in Oxford one summer.
6. Have tangoed with sea lions beneath the waves of the Galapagos.
7. Sponsor Nomatter’s (a student in Zimbabwe) education, and meeting her during the summer of 2013 is one of my top unforgettable moments.
8. Have bungy jumped off the bridge where the sport originated (Kawarau) in New Zealand.
9. Absolutely love Lake Tahoe, Nevada. It’s hands-down my favorite place in the world.
10. Have swum alongside sharks and stingrays in Tahiti.
11. Find adventure and travel to yield the most fantastic experiences and education in the universe.
