This world is beautiful. Every day I am amazed by the wonders I see around me. All creatures, big and small. Flowers, insects, trees, birds, fish, the cat, and most fascinating: People.

I am interested in interaction, connection and communication in the broadest sense. Because no living creature can survive all by itself. My professional career is focussed on communication between nerve cells in the central nervous system. I study synapses in the retina in order to understand how images are transformed into electrical signals that the brain can comprehend.

Our senses are our means of communication with the world around us. By seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling, tasting, we are able to experience the beauty of things, to fuel our imagination, our creativity and our dreams.
