In 21st century, hams no longer need to buy the biggest and most expensive antennas to talk to each other. We can now have our own personal micro repeaters in the shack or in the truck with a digital Handheld and make QSO with other hams without any issue at all.
Some example of hotspots are: OpenSPOT4 PRO, ZUMspot Elite 3.5, NEX-GEN CUSTOM HOT SPOTS, TGIF Spot, SkyBridge Hotspot, and JumboSPOT.
Don't forget, we can build our own hotspots.
