My name is Nicola and I'm currently a student at Durham College in the public relations program - expected to graduate in August of this year. I completed a one-day-a-week 14-week placement with a non-profit organization, Epilepsy Durham Region where I exceeded my PR skills and was able to completely conduct an event from start-to-finish on my own. In the next few weeks, I will be starting my corporate placement with ParkBench, a social network strictly geared to bring residents and local businesses of neighbourhoods together.
My family and friends come first no matter what. In the blink of an eye I would be there for someone close to me if they weren't feeling their best. I love to give back, whether it's to charity, or just to a friend who's having a bad day. I'm also proud to say I'm in the process of hopes to becoming a Big for Big Brothers, Big Sisters.
Soccer and travelling, two of the most enjoyed things in my life. 20 years in the sport I love, and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. Although, I no longer play competitively, I sill make it mandatory that I play every outdoor and indoor season with the most amazing group of ladies. The first time i jumped on a plane, I was only nine years old, attending a family wedding in Whales and residing in England. From that day, I've travelled to 17 countries in Europe, North and South America, the Caribean, and putting my first step on the continent of Asia when I pack up and head off to China in October.
No matter my mood, or energy level there is one think I can also look to. Music. Something so simple, yet so satisfying. I've had many great experiences attending many concerts throughout the GTA and the rush of meeting some of my favourite artists. However, nothing compares to the amount of fun I had at an annual punk, rock and metal two-day festival held in Montebello, Quebec last year. I am excited to announce that I will be attending again this year with more bands in my interest than the last!
I hope my story has yet to end, and I can keep fulfilling my dreams in life. But if something doesn't work out, I come to realize that maybe it was for the best. This is why I live my life by the saying "Whatever's meant to be will work out perfectly."
