I have been, for over 24 years, centrally located in television news and station management. Now as the press secretary for the mayor of a metro area of a million people this is an animal of a different type. Clearly this is the most exciting job I've ever had. The exposure to very smart and hard working people in vital roles in government make every minute, let alone every day, a new deal. The intellectual challenges and the vast area of knowledge that must be absorbed is daunting. I am taking as much in as possible, as fast as I can. Decisions that are being made during these difficult times make the environment quite edgy between intra-government branches. Deep cuts in budgets affecting people and material has a way of striking at the core of human patience. Regardless of a sense of rational thought, taking away services creates divisions not normally experienced during stable times of local government operations. I love this work, more than I ever thought I would. I am truly blessed to have an opportunity to help.
