BIO Lilian Maria Bjertnes was born in Norway. She was educated at The Norwegian College for Dance 1979/81 – 82/ 83. She continued her studies with Alwin Nikolais and Murray Louis at Nikolais / Louis Foundation for Dance Inc. in New York for 4 years and later at NIH, Norges Idrettshøgskole, Oslo (The Norwegian College for Athletes) 1989 / 91.

Lilian has worked as a freelance dancer, teacher, choreographer and producer in Maputo, Senegal, New York, Oslo and Bergen.

Since 2009 she has visited Africa several times as part of an artistic exchange program between Norwegian and African youths as well as participating in work shops in African modern dance, African traditional dance, and drum playing. Lilian was part of the choreographic team for the Umoja Festival 2012 which was telecast to 25 countries in Africa.

Lilian`s teaching has a strong base in the Nikolais / Louis technique and its elements. She has refined and defined her approach to training and teaching throughout her 30 years in the field.
