Lamont Hinson

Lamont Hinson is embarking on his fourth year as the Director of Sports Information at Johnson C. Smith University. He joined the Golden Bull family in January of 2009. The Director of Sports Information serves as the institutional representative to the media for all athletic activities; under general supervision of the University Public Relations Director. This includes, but is not limited to, coordinating media relations activities; writing and distributing press releases and media guides; maintaining the athletic website, compiling team statistical information, and other duties as assigned.

The multi-faceted SID has added many new features to the department in the area of sports information. The JCSU Athletic media functionality has expanded; one example would be the on-campus athletic reporting show (Bull’s Eye View). The Golden Bulls now provides live webcasts of football, basketball, home track & field, and some special events through the official JCSU Athletic website www.goldenbullsports.com.

Prior to relocating to Charlotte, NC, Hinson served two years as the Assistant Sports Information Director at Fayetteville State University. Hinson also served the play-by-play announcer for volleyball and women’s basketball webcasts. He was the host during football season for the weekly coach’s show FSU Pigskin Press Talk as well as some other innovative ventures at Fayetteville State

Hinson has covered Johnson C. Smith University athletics through a men’s and women’s basketball CIAA Championship seasons, hosting the 2010 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and the launch of the Commemorative Classic (annual football clash between JCSU and Livingstone College).

Committed to professional growth and service on a personal and professional level, Hinson has served as a member and contributor with a variety of organizations including Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), and the Barry University School of Business Alumni Association.

A native of Fayetteville, NC, Hinson graduated cum laude from Fayetteville State University in 2003 with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration with a Marketing concentration. He later earned a Master’s in Business Administration and in Sports Management from Barry University in 2006.
