Growing up I was always surrounded by movies, tabloids, reality TV, and E! News. Hollywood surrounded my life, and I knew way too much celebrity gossip at a young age. I have so many memories of an eight year old me reading Us Weekly and People magazine with my mom discussing the latest fashion trends, celebrity marriages, and upcoming movies and TV shows. To this day we still read the magazines and always talk about the latest scandals. Naturally, I gained an immense interest in celebrities and pop culture but mostly with movies. My parents and I were constantly in the Regal movie theater watching all the new releases, and when I got older we would have an annual Oscars watch party. While I don’t know every single detail about movie making, I love learning and discussing everything that goes into it: the cinematography, lighting, soundtrack, editing, and acting. Movies have had a major impact in my life and shaped me into the person I am today. My favorite characters have influenced my own personality, and I look up to them. I love how movies allow people to connect and relate to these characters. These people aren’t real and neither are their experiences, yet when I go to the movies I feel I'm there with them experiencing the same things they are. It's so comforting knowing these characters goes through similar experiences or thoughts as me. Films depict the raw emotions people often go through. They tell a story that others might have never considered. People can learn so much from movies, and I believe it can help people empathize with those who are different. Movies aren’t only important to me; I know they can have an impact on others and help shape society.
