Logan Jack
Student in Athens, Georgia
During the Fall of last year, I decided to take a semester off before heading to college at The University of Georgia. Over the course of this period I got my first “real” job. I had other jobs, such as, refereeing, baby-sitting, and house-sitting, but none that required an application, interview, or even doing the work unless I wanted to. I was very nervous when applying for my first job due the fact that I thought it was much harder to get a job than it actually was. Within two days of completing the application, I got a call from a manager for an interview, and started working at Subway as a sandwich artist within a week. This job was both harder and easier than I thought it would be. The easy parts came after lunch when no one would come into the restaurant and my job consisted of sitting around and cleaning up. The unexpected hard part about working there, besides learning ingredient formulas for each sandwich, was interacting with people. While working, the majority of the people I interacted with were nice and friendly, but there were a few people who were ridiculously rude or out of touch with reality. When applying for that job it never crossed my mind that I would have to deal with the most outrageous people I have ever met. I resigned from the job right before the spring semester started, but I learned a lot and overall had a good first experience in the work force.
