Lokman Hakim Ismail
Lokman Hakim Ismail is the Dean of Student Development Center, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). He involves in many soft skills programs for students including; university-community engagement, student mobility, and career development. He is also an Associate Professor in Department of Architecture and Engineering Design, Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His primary area of researches and publications were mostly science, engineering and technology, mainly related to natural and build environments.
His academic background and experiences have aided him with applicable skills and knowledge in teaching, research and administrative work in a university. He undertook undergraduate studies in housing, building and planning with specialization in building engineering at Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang. Upon his graduation in 1996, he worked as a graduate engineer with Zaidun Leeng Consulting Engineers Sdn Bhd in Kuala Lumpur and involved in Damansara-Puchong Highway Construction Project. Later he joined Nice Skyline Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary company of IOI Group Berhad as a Project Engineer and involved in a mix development of new township at Bandar Putra, Segamat.
When the economic downturn returned in 1998, he pursued his master degree in environment, at Universiti Putra Malaysia at the same time worked as a building manager for Yap Burgess Rawson International Sdn Bhd at Angkasa Impian Condominium and Bangsar Indah Apartment in Kuala Lumpur.
After completing his master in 1999 he joined UTM (ITTHO) as a full time temporary lecturer where he started his career as an academician later on, joined Tun Hussein Onn University College of Technology as full time permanent lecturer. He involved as much work load for teaching and learning, curriculum development and fundamental research. He moved to the UK in 2004 for his PhD in architecture and building engineering at University of Liverpool under Dr Magda Sibley and Professor David Oldham supervision.
In 2008 he returned to Malaysia and continued his career at UTHM as senior lecturer and was appointed as the head of department for construction and building engineering department for three years. He was appointed as an associate professor in 2013 and the head for student career department in 2014 before leading the university student development center as the dean in September 2015.
