Since I could remember, my whole life has been enriched with music. It began when I was three years old and my parents decided to enroll me in singing lessons. Too young to go against them, I scrambled my way into the car and was off to an unknown land. Little did I know that I was about to discover my passion.
When I was nine, I decided to audition for the school choir. Singing was the one thing I was confident about, which meant I had a fair chance of making it in.
I excelled in my elementary school choir, receiving many praises from my classmates and solos from my director. However, once middle school started, the competition pool grew. I no longer was the “best singer”. For the first time in a long time, I felt small. My confidence shrank and I yearned to find a way to fall in love with singing again. I decided to get involved with singing as much as I could, joining the middle school choir, the women’s choir, and the co-ed a cappella club.
As I entered high school, my relationship with music changed. I was no longer the over competitive girl who poured hours into perfecting a solo that didn’t suit her voice. I joined the Select Women’s Ensemble group to extend my passions into high school. Being a part of this choir group exposed me to various experiences and people I will never forget. Outside of choir, I received a spot in Momentum, the high school a cappella group. Later in my junior and senior year, I won the spot of club president.
Now a college freshman, I have realized the importance of cherishing my passion. I plan on continuing to make music a part of my life.
