Long Journey Home
Long Journey Home
Long Journey Home is a true story about a house, a journey, and two families who were united in marriage but divided by war. It’s about love found and lost. About ordinary people caught up in massive continent-wide events - and life’s unexpected turn of events. It tells the story of Betty Adams, a young English woman who in 1938 follows her heart, against her father’s advice, and marries Rudolf her German sweetheart. She moves to Germany just before the Second World War, but Rudolf is conscripted into the army and is eventually sent to the Russian front. In the meantime, Betty’s brother James joins the RAF and takes part in bombing raids over Germany. At the war's end, with her two children, she escapes the advancing Red Army and finally makes her way back home to England. The 22 minute film is a dramatised documentary, narrated by Betty's daughter Jutta, and made by a largely local cast and crew. Much of the action is set in the actual house where the events took place.
