Loren Stoddard

Lima, Peru

A native of Provo, Utah, Loren Stoddard attended Brigham Young University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in the Classics. Inspired by history, world politics, and languages, Loren Stoddard went on to combine these interests with a desire to study international business. Enrolling as a dual-degree graduate student, Stoddard received a Master of Business Administration from Arizona State University and a Master of International Management from Thunderbird, the American Graduate School of International Management.

Excelling academically, while still a graduate student Loren Stoddard earned the opportunity to explore his interests further through internships and consulting positions. Additionally, he participated in beneficial international study trips to Chile and Peru through the Thunderbird program.

Following graduate school, Loren Stoddard accepted a position with Daymon Associates, a private label brokerage and management firm in Glendale, Arizona. Within a year, he was promoted to the position of country representative for Chile. Over the next five years, he made valuable contributions to the company working in Santiago, Chile; Tokyo, Japan; and Phoenix, Arizona. He participated in launching hundreds of products, gaining valuable experience in developing supply sources, package design, marketing, and logistics for major clients such as PETsMART, Santa Isabel, and Jusco. Rising to the position of Senior Business Manager, Stoddard held increasing responsibilities in the areas of negotiating commissions, managing staff, and overseeing general profit and loss for new foreign subsidiaries.

His talents were honed in the private sector, but Loren Stoddard's work helping small businesses abroad ignited his interest in public service. In 2001, he accepted a position with the United States Agency for International Development. Focused on international business, his position as a Private Enterprise Officer was based in Washington, D.C., but included temporary duties in Lima, Peru, and Guatemala City, Guatemala. Working with both the Business Development Office and the Latin American/Caribbean Bureau, Stoddard was responsible for cultivating support and developing joint partnerships in the public and private sectors.
