Lorien Matthews is a portrait photographer who has a talent for working with people. She finds creating portraits of people inspirational, and always interviews her subjects because she learns something new, or comes away with an interesting story. She believes that people and their differences can prove to be fascinating subjects to document; each shoot is always unique. Her portrait work comes together to form an ever growing series of photographs, that document and bring out peoples individual nature.
Specialising in both digital and film photography, and influenced by the portrait work of Harry Borden, especially the Holocaust Survivor series. Lorien likes to change between both depending on a shoot’s requirement, and a subject’s personality. She also likes having the ability to work in a darkroom; people are different and often require different methods of photography.
Lorien is a confident, enthusiastic photographer, and with every shoot she strives to achieve high quality results. She is always learning new skills and developing old ones; she considers herself to be professional, friendly, and creative in her work. These qualities allow her to produce a high standard of work, pleasing to herself as a photographer, the viewer, and the client.
