Lori Seubert
Teacher in Northwest Ohio
I am a retired 30-year public school teacher who's passionate about early childhood teaching & learning as well as science education. Armed with a Masters-in-field (early childhood and a specialization in elementary school science) plus 60 semester hours of related studies, I have taught mainly second and third grades. For four years I was granted leave from my school district to become a K-6 Science Support Teacher (ST). As an ST, we were intensively trained to coach, co-teach, model, instruct, observe and evaluate our teaching peers through the National Science Foundation's T.A.P.E.S.T.R.I.E.S. project. This multi-million dollar project was a collaboration between four institution: two K-12 districts--Toledo Public Schools and Springfield Local Schools--and two state universities--The University of Toledo and Bowling Green State University. In addition to this educational support role and my classroom teaching, I was chosen to be a K-6 science curriculum consultant for Delta Education, Inc. As such, I traveled throughout the Midwest and presented science workshops for K-6 teachers and their school administrators. Throughout my teaching career, I have been invited to speak about elementary school science topics and science writing at several public school districts throughout the U.S. and the University of Texas at Galveston. I, also, was chosen to present during science conventions at the local, state, and national levels, including several at the National Science Teaching Association (NSTA) national conventions. Among the grants, honors, and awards I've received during my teaching career, the one I most cherish was being nominated and awarded "Outstanding K-3 Teacher" by the Toledo Affiliate of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
