Lost Cairns Online Museum
Cairns and District
LOST CAIRNS is an online museum via Facebook social media. I created the page in October 2012 as a tool for students, researchers, historians, genealogists and other interested people. I also created it to enable people to get those photos out of Grandma's shoeboxes and share them, and their memories. My personal details: I'm a great grandmother who was close to one of my great grandmothers - therefore covering 8 generations of living history - and I'm not 60 yet. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in History. My earliest Australian ancestor arrived as a convict within the first 50 years of European settlement. Another two ancestors were in the party of missionaries who were the first free European settlers of Queensland after Andrew Petrie. A Great great grandfather arrived in Far North Queensland two years before Cairns was established. The only ancestor to arrive on Australian shores after 1864 was my grandfather, who arrived in the very early 1930's. As was the way with many of the early settlers, at least one of my ancestors not only took the land from the First People, but the women as well, I therefore have relatives who identify as aborigines.
