Lou Riggione
As Staff Vice President, Lou Riggione is responsible for the Employer Group Retiree (EGR) Sales Division at WellPoint, Inc. In this role, Lou is charged with executive oversight of the Group Retiree Sales and Account Management teams on a national basis, while also managing strategic relationships with key Partners. He has responsibility for overall sales and renewals of WellPoint's current book of business.
Lou currently oversees all Group Medicare Advantage sales related activities with an emphasis on the 14 "Blue" states owned by WellPoint. Primary duties include development and implementation of EGR's sales strategies, including five-year planning and ownership of Membership, Revenue and Operational Gain (profit) goals, within his $800,000,000 book of business.
As the champion for Anthem's Health Marketplace Private Exchange for Senior Products, Lou is focused on the Bloom Health Private Exchange, which entails creating solutions for groups that want to reduce or eliminate their FASB or GASB liability by taking their business to our Exchange using a "Group to Individual" or "Group to Group" model.
Lou successfully leads a team of eight associates – a division consistently ranked as one of the top performing entities within all WellPoint business units. As a key member of a highly-matrixed organization, he works closely with cross-functional teams, including Product Development, Marketing, Operations, Finance, Networks and Customer Service, to ensure continuity and effectiveness.
Prior to being promoted to Staff Vice President at WellPoint, Lou held various senior management positions in the healthcare industry. He joined Anthem Blue Cross (previously Blue Cross of California) in 1986 and has been a key member of the Orange County Large Group Sales office for more than 18 years. During his tenure, he managed commercial sales activities for the Southern California Region and was lauded for his role in leading his team to consecutive "Office of the Year" achievements.
Lou received his Bachelors of Business Administration degree from Florida Atlantic University, and a Masters of Business Administration degree from Pepperdine University. He is Past President of the Orange County Employee Benefit Council and a "Lifelong Fellow" of the Southern California Leadership Network.
