Louise Coetzer
Coetzer trained as a dancer at Pretoria Technikon and majored in choreography. Since graduating in 2001 she has choreographed an impressive collection of original works with a strong focus on relationships and the humour and complexities inherent in human interaction. “Coetzer understands the requirements of choreography, group dynamics, characterisation and focus, how to use good music in surprising juxtapositions with content and movement and how to comment in an entertaining way on society. She is a big talent,” remarks Schalk Schoombie.
Her work has been showcased at KKNK, FNB Dance Umbrella, PANSA 48 hr Festival and she has produced works for Baxter Dance Festival. “Louise is a highly focused and motivated young South African talent. It’s always interesting to see what she’ll conjure up next,” adds Nicolette Moses, Associate Producer, The Baxter Theatre.
Through Louise’s vision and directorship, Darkroom Contemporary will make movement arts accessible to all through collaboration and outreach.
