Louise Benally is a human rights and environmental rights activist from Big Mountain, Arizona. A Dinéh woman, she was born and raised as a sheep herder, farmer, herbalist, permaculturist, and health educator. She is a traditional cultural advisor, counselor, and consultant. A mother, grandmother and a clan mother, she has served as an advocate for human and environmental rights for many years. Her life is dedicated to fighting the energy extraction of coal, uranium, and now fracking in impacted communities. Advocating for water rights in indian country and food security issues are her passion.
