OUR PHILOSOPHY

We envision birth as a natural process, one which requires great inner strength and surrender, yet needs minimal outside assistance. A woman’s body is wonderfully made to develop and bring forth new life.
We hold the standard of natural birth (vaginal, unmedicated labor and delivery) as most desirable for mothers and babies. We recognize that for some women, due to unchosen circumstances, unmedicated birth is not preferable. We support each woman in choosing the birth which is safe and comfortable for her unique situation. Therefore, we do not claim superiority over women for whom surgical birth is a must.
Each child’s birth is embedded in a mother’s memory. It deserves to be a treasured moment, marked by intimacy and sacredness, that is joyfully shared. Too often it is a grievous story, involving fear and manipulation, that is told with lament.
We encourage families to take responsibility for their birth experiences. Ask question. Make informed choices. Anticipate a wonderful birth! Then share these experiences!

We have several resource pages offering information on natural-birth-friendly doctors, midwives, doulas, birth books, birth supplies and more. Our facebook group is often abuzz with questions, event announcements, birth news, and opinions. While on-line contacts are helpful, we strongly encourage every member to attend at least one meetup soon after joining so that they may experience the supportive relationships offered there. There are meetups happening all over the state, so please find a local meeting or offer to host one!
