I am currently a senior, double-majoring in Accounting and Business Administration Management, scheduled to graduate December 2016. I am also classified as a non-traditional student because I am both a wife and mother, and quite a bit older than most students.
I am originally from New Jersey, where I grew up in what many may describe as a dysfunctional lifestyle (I was a child of divorced parents). During my youth I found solace in my academics; it became what I was great at. When I graduated high school, I also received my license to practice cosmetology (the ability to do hair). As I attended college, I worked as a stylist, in addition to running a Male initiative program ata local Durham high school. There I uncovered and further developed my passion not only for entrepreneurship, but social entrepreneurship.
Through the many paths I've taken, I have learned that my life has always seemingly been about serving others. Ironically, I will soon be a graduate of a University that was established on the principles of "Truth and Service."
The purpose of my two degrees isn't just to make me marketable to future employers, but to be an asset to my community. As an asset, I will have the knowledge and skills necessary to assist aspiring and established entrepreneurs in successfully starting and managing a business.
I leave you with this as life has taught me,
"You have to be limitless in the responsibility of self-improvement: spiritually, mentally, and physically."
