Durham , NC
My name is Lucretia Gantt Pinckney. I was born on November 7, 1952 in Walterboro, South Carolina. Our family consisted of my father, mother, two sisters and three brothers. We resided in the small community of Neyles. I am the second child. I attended Neyles Elementary School, Black Street Middle School and I graduated from Colleton High School. After High School I joined the Job Corp and relocated to Astoria Oregon.
I married my high school sweet heart. Our family consists of two offspring, a daughter and a son. We traveled aboard and throughout the United States. The place I enjoyed the most was Heilburg, Germany. I enjoyed the culture, food, wine, mountains, and the people. While living in Germany I was employed at the United Army Bureau of Driver’s Licenses as a processing Clerk. My duties were to process and gather information for driver licenses from the troops and their families. I received an award for submitting the suggestion for the direct mailing of license to the troops units. The United States Army adopted my suggestion. We lived in Germany for five years.
In 1980 we relocated to Killeen, Texas. I attended Killeen Community College majoring in Computer Science. I was an honor student. This was also a transition period in my life. My husband I separated and within two years we were divorced. My children and I relocated to Walterboro South Carolina, and started a new life.
After relocating I worked as a Substitute Teacher and attended the local Junior College. I graduated within two years with an Associate’s degree.
In 1982, I was a student at University of South Carolina. While attending the university I worked as a Night Auditor at the Marriott Hotel. This exposed me to the overall operations of a full service hotel.
In 1985, I graduated from the University with a degree, in Applied Science in the field of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration.
