Lucy spent the first 14 years of her life in mismatched outfits trying to be a combination of Avril Lavigne and a glitter slogan-drenched P!NK. She has since spent the last decade making up for such material sins, and has forged a love for designer finery from the likes of Kenzo, Givenchy, Alexander Wang and Mulberry (but secretly buys all her jeans from Primark).
At the age of 21, Lucy decided to take charge of breaking into the Fashion Industry, and embarked on the Fashion Journalism Intensive Course at London College of Fashion, followed by a series of internships, contracted jobs and work experience in PR, Marketing and Journalism for a number of companies including LOOK and Fabulous magazines, Secretsales.com, Devetta PR and Channel 4. Each venture bestowed upon her knowledge, skills, and salacious industry gossip.
After being diagnosed with a sleep disorder, Lucy took a break from work, and as a way of slowly getting back into the swing of things, started a Fashion Retail and Enterprise course at Newcastle College in January 2014. Not realising the majority of her peers would be 16-18 years of age, Lucy has quickly been taught the importance of Instagram, the Kardashians, SnapChat and Beyonce songs. In return, she has taught them how to pronounce Givenchy correctly, exposed them to 90s hip-hop, and is on a mission to harden their youthful livers by persuading a number of students to go for 'relaxing drinks' on weekdays.
When she finishes the course June 2015, Lucy plans to move back to London to start working in fashion again, and dreams of one day working for either Net-a-Porter, ELLE magazine, or for her heroes, designers Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Until then, her blog, http://smoothlikevelvet.wordpress.com/ will do.
