Lucas Santos
Masters student in Brazil
Lucas is a physiotherapist and Master's degree student, is dedicated to investigating interdisciplinary factors that impact postural control mechanisms, balance, gait, and the increased risk of falls in people with Parkinson's disease.
During his bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy, Lucas served as the president of the Academic League of Sports and Orthopedic Physiotherapy (LAFEO), leading a group of students in promoting scientific and practical information related to the sports and orthopedic fields.
For a period of 1 year and 5 months (July 2021-December 2022), he worked as an intern in Physiotherapy at Esporte Clube Pinheiros. During this time, he had the opportunity to provide care to numerous patients, including amateur and professional athletes, under the supervision of experienced physiotherapists.
Furthermore, he completed a scientific internship, during which he undertook two projects over the course of a year under the guidance of Professor Dr. Sandra Freitas. These projects focused on (i) intra- and inter-rater validation for a manual dexterity evaluation test and (ii) the utilization of additional somatosensory information in the postural control mechanisms of individuals who have suffered a stroke.
Additionally, he volunteers as a rater for Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) and McMaster Online Rating Evidence (MORE) Rehab and contributes as a citizen scientist with the Cochrane Collaboration.
Lucas's research interests encompass neurological diseases, motor rehabilitation, motor behavior, epidemiology, and research methodology.
