I am thrilled to join Brooklyn Arts Exchange's community. BAX’s commitment to bringing youth and established artists together to learn from one another is inspiring. Many of the principles that have guided and continue to guide me as an arts educator parallel those reflected in BAX’s mission.
Since receiving an MFA in Theater Studies from Columbia University’s Graduate School of the Arts in 2006, I have developed and directed theater and arts education programs in a variety of community spaces. From 2008 to 2012, I served as Director of Museum Programs for the Children’s Museum of the Arts (CMA), a hands-on art making and exhibition space. Prior to that, I was Director of Community Programs at CMA, leading the museum’s community and school outreach. Prior to CMA, I worked with Community Works West (CWW) in San Francisco where I developed, administered, and taught creative writing, theater, and performance workshops with youth and adult populations impacted by incarceration. Concurrently, I worked as a freelance production consultant for Bay Area theater companies. A New York City native, I have also worked with youth through the Leadership Program, Theaters Against War, The Renaissance University for Community Education, and Brooklyn Nonviolent Communication.
Through these experiences, I have learned the value of fostering collaborations between professional and non-professional artists, writers, and performers. I believe that the performing arts in particular provide powerful tools for raising personal and social awareness and expression. I am grateful for this opportunity to join the BAX community and I look forward to our upcoming work together.
