Lucian Talu Mayabi, PhD, is a dynamic STEM educator, researcher, and curriculum designer with a deep commitment to leveraging mathematics for real-world impact. She holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics, with doctoral research focused on modeling predator–prey dynamics in multi-patch ecosystems under stochastic influences. She also holds an MSc in Applied Mathematics (Biomathematics specialization) and a Bachelor’s degree in Education Science (Mathematics & Biology).
Her research experience spans mathematical ecology, dynamical systems, and infectious disease modeling, including contributions to COVID-19 transmission dynamics. She is an active member of global professional communities such as the International Mathematical Union (IMU), the European Mathematical Society (EMS), and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM).
Beyond her scientific work, Lucian is deeply committed to education equity and student-centered pedagogy. She has led and supported numerous STEM education and EdTech initiatives across East Africa through organizations such as the African Maths Initiative, LabXchange, and INNODEMS. Her portfolio includes designing culturally responsive, interactive digital content; supporting teachers in low-connectivity environments; and co-facilitating programs grounded in inquiry-based and playful learning approaches.
Lucian’s technical toolkit includes proficiency in Python, R, MATLAB, HTML, STACK, GeoGebra, and Git. She brings strong communication, critical thinking, and project management skills—alongside a deep sense of integrity and inclusivity—to every professional setting she steps into.
