Lucretia John

Lucretia John has dedicated her career to fighting to end all forms of racial, social and economic inequality and oppression through community organizing and resource development. As a community organizer, she has worked with parents to reform the education system of New York City and with service workers in South Jersey to fight for fair funding of education and health care. She has served as NYS Senate liaison to community-based organizations in Central Brooklyn and as public policy writer on topics ranging from the home foreclosure crisis to the high rates of stop-and-frisks by the NYPD of people of color. Lucretia’s work in philanthropy began at the Third Wave Foundation, coordinating the Southwest networking tour of Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. Lucretia volunteers with various collectives and organizations committed to community-based leadership development, political solidarity, self-care, and shifting the balance of power to make more room for more people at the table. She is an active volunteer with the Venceremos Brigade and an organizer with the RISE Collective: Social Workers for Social Justice. In addition, she holds a BA in Psychology (with a double minor in Mathematics and American Literature) from Manhattanville College.
