I’m Lucy, and it probably goes without say, I am the wife of a trucker. I am also mom to 16 (if you include my 14 furbabies!), grandma to four and a part-time private duty nurse. While those are my “official hats” I also wear several others…gardener, housekeeper, financial manager, cook, handiwoman, you name it, I do it!

My hubby is a tanker-yanker and is often away from home for 2-3 weeks at a time. Although I miss him terribly when he is away, I do feel very blessed to be married to such a hard working, dedicated man.

So, why am I boring you with all this? I’m getting there, honestly! Over the years I have met other wives of truckers. Without a doubt, the hat collection of a truckers wife is definitely larger as compared to wives who have their husbands home every night. Interestingly, a common thread/theme I hear over and over from the newbie truckers wife to the well seasoned truckers wife, is regarding bills, income and household management. I found this to be true in my own life as well and set out on a mission to do something about it. First thing I did was to work on our finances. Hubs and I started following Dave Ramsey’s baby steps (more about that later) and put ourselves on a financial diet. While our income didn’t actually change, this “diet” is doing wonders for our financial health. My next challenge was to become more proficient at household management. Admittedly, that continues to be a work in progress!
