Lucy Bowditch
Professor of Art History in New York, NY, US
The recipient of a bachelor's degree and PhD in art history from Bowdoin College and the University of Chicago, respectively, Lucy Bowditch is an experienced professor who first began teaching in an adjunct professor capacity at Hunter College in 1988. She later taught at the School of Visual Arts, Parsons School of Design, and Pace University. Dr. Lucy Bowditch has taught full-time at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York, since 1995. During this time, she has taught courses on modern art, history of photography, and art criticism.
Outside of teaching, Dr. Lucy Bowditch has authored art-focused articles for a variety of publications, including Afterimage: The Journal of Media Arts and Cultural Criticism and The New England Quarterly: A Historical Review of New England Life and letters. In addition, she has authored chapters in several books and delivered papers at more than a dozen conferences. She presented her most recent paper, "Regarding Figure and Ground: Courbet's Scientific Method in the 1850s," at the Courbet Conference in Munich, Germany, in 2019.
Dr. Bowditch has also curated exhibitions at The Esther Massry Gallery and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, among other institutions. She holds membership with organizations such as the College Art Museum, American Association of University Professors, and Whitney Museum of American Art.
