Oh the beauty of Puerto Rico, and yet how easily overlooked. Though the United States may have forgotten about their people, natural disasters have not. Hurricane Maria reigned disaster upon the island at six in the morning of September 20th. President Trump, thirteen days after the devastation and a couple trips to the golf course, finally arrived to “help”. However, the damage had already been done. In the picture included in this post, is of a beautiful tourist part near the capital, San Juan. The little colorful buildings behind me are the homes of people whose families have lived there for centuries. Now, most of them are destroyed beyond repair and others have extensive water damage.

This past summer, I traveled to Puerto Rico for three weeks to experience my parents’ culture on my own before venturing off to college. I took numerous amounts of photos, including this one, to capture the beauty I had witnessed. However, upon hearing that all of the gorgeous places I visited have been destroyed, I was devastated. I am so grateful to have experienced my heritage before the destruction. As well, I look forward to going back and witnessing the progress that has been made. This experience and photo have aided me in realizing my love of traveling and experiences with different cultures. I hope to be able to continue my exploration of this world and myself within through it.
