After directing and finishing his first film in 2011, IT IS DARK IN HERE, Luis Labrador has realized his dream by opening his own production company, Digital Breathing.

Luis carved his name in the film industry as a 3D visual effects artist. His talent has gained international recognition and the films he has worked on have been credited with several prestigious awards and nominations including One Oscar for Best achievements in Visual Effects (Spiderman 2), Three Oscars for Best Animated Features (Frozen, Big Hero 6, Encanto), One Oscar for Best Animated Short Film (Feast) and seven Academy Award nominations (Best Animated Feature Film, Best Achievements in Visual Effects and Best Visual Effects).

A brief list of his films include: SPIDER MAN 2, I AM LEGEND, WATCHMEN, SUPER MAN RETURNS, MONSTER HOUSE, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON, KUNG FU PANDA 2, WRECK-IT RALPH, FROZEN, BIG HERO 6, FEAST, FROZEN 2, ENCANTO and many more.

His career began in Spain where he worked as a special makeup effects artist. After watching JURASSIC PARK he realized that he wanted to take his career to the next level. With just two suitcases, enough money for two months of living expenses and a limited command of the English language, Luis moved to LA to pursue his dream in the film industry. At that time there were no schools that offered instruction in CGI, so he taught himself during nights and weekends while also mastering English and becoming acclimated to his new home.

Luis’s first big break in LA was at Gentle Giant Studios where he held the positions of 3D scanning and 3D modeling Artist. His numerous feature film credits there include, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, SPIDER MAN 2, X MEN 2 and VAN HELSING.

While working on SPIDER MAN 2, Sony Pictures Imageworks took notice of Luis’s talent and immediately offered him an opportunity to work for them. Luis had a successful career at this studio for 6 years as a senior character modeler in the visual effects department.

He eventually left Imageworks after being offered a position with DreamWorks Animation where he worked for 3 years. Currently he holds the position of Craft Leader / Modeling Supervisor / Artist at Disney Animation .
