Luis Remus

A recognized expert in clinical laboratory methods and processes, Luis Remus, M.D., Ph.D., has distinguished himself through his dedication to precision, efficiency, and innovation. As a faculty pathologist and Medical Director for Specimen Processing and Referral Testing at the University of Texas' M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, he participated in the design of an increasingly efficient special chemistry laboratory work queue and oversaw a new online quality control program for all chemistry divisions.

At this time, Luis Remus also developed an innovative method that improved specimen analysis for bone marrow transplantation patients, reducing analysis time from between 48 and 60 hours to seven hours. While working in the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Luis Remus also held a position as Assistant Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and as Adjunct Assistant Professor in the School of Health Professions, both at the University of Texas. He presented lectures on instrumentation and methodology of clinical chemistry as well as pathophysiology. He also gave lectures and practical instruction to participants in the school's Clinical Pathology Fellowship program, teaching chemical pathology as well as clinical and forensic toxicology.

In addition to his educational and laboratory leadership, Luis Remus has served on several committees at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He has sat on the Medical Practice Committee and Clinical Ethics Service, as well as the Clinical Effectiveness Subcommittees on Hyperglycemia and Institution Pregnancy Testing Policy. He has led and served on many accreditation inspection teams through the College of American Pathologists. Luis Remus holds an M.D. from Tulane University and a Ph.D. in Clinical Chemistry from Louisiana State University. He has been named board eligible in Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology and has been certified as a Clinical Laboratory Director by the American Board of Bioanalysis. In 2010, he successfully completed Part Two of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry exam and is in preparation to complete Part One. Dr. Remus has also published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and is a Reviewer for the College of American Pathologists’ Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
