Emily Wu Truong is an award-winning speaker for mental health awareness from the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles, CA. She is also known as the "Lady in Green" for her stylish green fashion statement as the lime green ribbon stands for mental health awareness. She graduated from University of California, Irvine with her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology & Social Behavior and Minor in Education. Over the last 5+ years, Emily has become a champion advocate affiliated with NAMI San Gabriel Valley, Asian Coalition working closely with LA County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH), Disability Rights California & the Mental Health Services Oversight & Accountability Commission (MHSOAC) in Sacramento. She has been featured as a guest speaker at USC, UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, UC Davis, International Bipolar Foundation, Raytheon, & many more places to encourage a more positive dialogue about community mental health. With the ability to articulate her personal experiences of growing up with depression, she has not allowed shame nor stigma to stop her from advocating for her younger self and others suffering in silence. In recognition of Women's History Month in March 2015, she received the 2015 Woman of Achievement Award from Senator Ed Hernandez. In October 2015, she received the Youth and Young Adult Leadership Award at the 29th Annual National Alternatives Conference in Memphis, Tennessee. Emily truly has become a role model, demonstrating self-initiative and an indomitable will, delivering her message that with help, there IS hope.
