LINDSAY WESKER
Biography
Born in 1959 in London, Lindsay Wesker’s career has spanned many industries and occupations.
Before joining the music industry in 1981, Lindsay wrote stage plays, TV scripts and a radio play. He wrote two episodes of the BBC TV series ‘Angels’ in 1980 (aged just 21), then wrote a radio play for Capital Radio (starring Anthony Scher). He then wrote three plays for the Black Theatre Co-Operative, all performed at The Royal Court Theatre Upstairs.
Lindsay has also been a professional club DJ since 1979 and a radio broadcaster since 1982, starting out on ‘pirate’ stations.
Since joining the music industry in 1981, he has worked as a music journalist at Black Echoes, co-written a black music encyclopaedia, worked at five different record labels (WEA, A&M, Avex, Mushroom and ZTT), created free! Magazine (later re-named Touch), and helped London radio station Kiss FM earn a legal licence.
Whilst working at Kiss between 1986-94, Lindsay not only presented shows but was also Head Of Music between 1990-94.
Since 1999, Lindsay has worked at MTV, where he created MTV Base, MTV Hits and MTV Dance. He still works there programming music videos for the MTV portfolio of channels.
Lindsay has also written (and self-published) his first novel ‘Thin Pale Foursome’ and is currently working on a second novel.
In December, 2012, Lindsay wrote and self-published a stocking filler book entitled ‘The Crap Husband’s Guide To A Successful Marriage’.
In March, 2013, Every Generation Media published ‘Masters Of The Airwaves: The Rise And Rise Of Underground Radio’, a history of British black music radio, written by Lindsay and co-author/noted DJ, Dave VJ. (http://everygeneration.co.uk/index.php/shop-home/masters-of-the-airwaves)
