Lyn Phoenix-Abbott is 58 years old and retired from a 31 year career as a speech/language pathologist in the public schools serving children with special needs like autism and Down syndrome. She was married for 32 years to the Reverend David Paul Phoenix, pastor of Mount Moriah Lutheran church in Berlin Center, Ohio. David passed away on June 18th, 2009 of colon cancer after serving 12 years at Mount Moriah. David and Lyn moved to Twinsburg, Ohio in 1998. Lyn has two daughters. Sara is 30 years old and married Bill Grigger Jr. on October 2, 2010. They currently live in Northfield, Ohio and had their first child on October 9, 2013. Leah is 26 years old married to Anthony Nedelman since June 9, 2012. They live in Edgewater, NJ and Leah is now playing a lead role in a Broadway show called Just One Bite directed by Franklin West.
Lyn was born in Long Island, New York on March 3, 1956 and moved to New Jersey and Pennsylvania when first married (1977-1981). She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Brockport Statue University of NY in 1977 and then a Master of Science degree from Penn State University in 1978 both in Speech/language pathology and Audiology. She and David married on August 6, 1977 and moved to Ohio in 1982. After many years of ministry and marriage together David passed away of colon cancer in 2009 and Lyn retired from Speech Therapy in 2010. Since then Lyn met a man named Randy Abbott and married him on September 1, 2012.
Lyn enjoys acting in community theater, singing in the choir at her church, sewing costumes for shows, reading, writing ( has written a novel), exercising and swimming. Lyn currently sells curricular materials and visual supports to teachers and therapists who work with non-verbal students who use AAC devices (computers that speak) on the website Teacherspayteachers.com. She also continues to do Assistive Technology evaluations for students in Lake and Geauga countiies. Recently, Lyn has begun babysitting on a part time basis for a child with Cerebral Palsy in the mornings and her 1-year-old grandson Billy in the afternoons while his mother works part-time.
Lyn’s first love, though, has always been writing and she has written her first novel “The Walk Home” published by Tate Publishing Company and released on January 14, 2014. It is being sold by Amazon.com and www.tatepublishing.com. Lyn's second novel is called "The Choice."
