Lynna Schaldemose

Victoria, BC is my hometown but I don't have the privilege of saying that I was born here. While my father was in the Air Force and stationed overseas I was born in Germany where I lived until I was four. After a couple of stops my parents made a very good decision and we settled on "the island" when I was seven.

I have happily lived in Brentwood Bay since 2000 and after years of living in smaller centers BB felt like the right size. Of course, my friends who live in Victoria think that I live in the-far-and-beyond. An added bonus is that when I travel people, or should I say older people, know just where I live when I say Butchart Gardens. Younger people just know my home location by our well known and illegal cash crop.

After years of temporary jobs that were mostly waitressing but also included being a chambermaid, cook for an oil rig, cucumber cleaner, and shoe seller, I decided to become a teacher. Besides liking children I also realized that you could get jobs overseas teaching. Alas, as often happens, a man interrupted that goal but I did live in a lot of places around BC and the Yukon as well as travel abroad and within Canada.

So far, I have lived in five provinces and one territory. I have visited all our provinces except Newfoundland and Labrador and driven across Canada three times. According to the Traveler' Century Club I have been to 43 countries and distinct territories. When my friends say that I have traveled a lot, I think "Maybe, but not enough!".

Having moved frequently after becoming a teacher, I also changed employment frequently. I worked mainly as a classroom as well as English-as-a-second Language and French-as-a-second Language teacher. The last few years I have been fascinated with learning web design and related computer topics as well as reading travel blogs.

I can't wait to continue my travels and blog about the unique, quirky, or just plain interesting things I find. Why don't you join me for some armchair travel?
