American tenor/conductor Lynn Gary Atkins, Jr.is a proud son of the Jersey Shore. His credits include performing in ensembles for Julie Andrews, Sarah Brightman, Charlotte Church, Linda Eder, Denyce Graves, Patti LaBelle, and Christopher Plummer; the New York Philharmonic, New Jersey Symphony, and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra; as well as a solo artist with Princeton Pro Musica, Delaware Valley Orchestra, Swarthmore Chorale, Litha Symphony Orchestra, Masterworks Chorale of the Shenandoah Valley, Petersburg Symphony, and Masterworks Chorale of Central Virginia, the Richmond Philharmonic Orchestra, the Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles, and the Long Beach Chamber Singers.

With over 20 years of experience, Lynn has served school districts, churches, and community music organizations across the US. During the 2019-2020 school year, he was honored to be a member of the partnership between the New Jersey Department of Education and Garden State Equality’s team of teachers to pilot teach and develop NJ's LGBTQ Inclusive Curriculum in Visual and Performing Arts.

Dr. Atkins earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from Westminster Choir College of Rider University and has the distinction of being a member of the first cohort to earn the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting from James Madison University. Following the example of his mentors, Lynn has devoted himself to the teaching artist model, continuing to sing for community and church ensembles while serving as guest adjudicator and guest conductor for countless county and district honor choir festivals, handbell choir workshops, and private music clinics.

From 2013 to 2019, Dr. Atkins served as artistic director of One Voice Chorus Richmond. During his six seasons with the choral organization, Lynn led the ensemble in season concerts and special events in the Central Virginia area with a focus on racial reconciliation and promoting diversity. He has also served as Artistic Director of the James River Ringers of Richmond and the Philadelphia Handbell Ensemble.

Atkins is currently Assistant Professor of Music, Director of Choral Activities, and Voice Area Coordinator at California State University, Dominguez Hills. He is also artistic director of the L. A. Bronze Handbell Ensemble and the South Coast Chorale of Long Beach. Lynn is a proud member of Pi Kappa Lambda: The National Music Honor Society and Mu Phi Epsilon: the National Music Fraternity.
