Lynzie Powis

My name is Lynzie. I will be 21 in October. I am artistic, creative, silly, confident, and I have a lot of motivation to do what I want in life! I have worked hard to get where I am. My goal in life is to be the voice that most kids with multi-disabilites don't have! I want to make a difference!

I am currently working on my B.A. of Special Education, Moderate/Intensive at Cleveland State University. My ultimate goal is to recieve my Master's in Occupational Therapy.

I am also currently working part time at Giant Eagle Eagle's Nest; where I watch, play, and color with kids (ages 3-9) while the parents shop.

I am interested in babysitting while I work at Giant Eagle and go to school or be a full time nanny. I am CPR, AED, and First Aid certified through American Red Cross, American Heart Association, and Giant Eagle.

I volunteered for about a year and a half at Parma Developmental Center (Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities), where I learned how to work with kids (ages 9-22) with severe developmental disabilites. Although the school is now shut down, I still have many mentors who are more than willing to help me through my career choice! I recieved the Volunteer of The Year Award for 2010. In my mentor's speech, he specifically mentioned that I took my volunteering seriously as if it was a paying job. He also pointed out all of my hard work with setting up for special events, my creative way with working with the kids on arts and crafts, and how fast I learn with each child's specific needs.

Outside of all of my work and accomplishments, I have a life most 20 year olds have! I have a boyfriend of two years, named Joshua! He has been my rock since I found this passion of working with children!
I love to hang out with my friends and family! I live with my parents, who have been married for 29 years. My dad is finishing up his Bachelor's degree from CSU. My mom just recieved her Master's of Education from CSU and is going back for more! I have an older brother who is an undergrad working on his Ph.D for Anthropology, also at CSU.
Now, you can tell where I get all of this motivation from!!

This is me!
