Michael Griffin is the Course Coordinator for the Center for Watershed Excellence at the Clemson University Restoration Institute. Upon completion of a B.S. in biochemistry from the University of Notre Dame, Michael served as an information technology director, database developer, and training coordinator for a small human-services organization. Michael’s graduate work in the College of Charleston’s M.S. in Environmental Studies program focused on coastal-plain hydrology and hydrogeochemistry. His thesis project, for which he was awarded a Geological Society of America research grant, blended field sampling with laboratory analysis of natural ion chemistry to assess groundwater/surface-water interactions and stormwater flow pathways. The project was recently published in Water Resources Research: http://bit.ly/griffin2014wrr. Michael brings his dual backgrounds in information technology and hydrology to the Center for Watershed Excellence, where he is coordinating a series of online and hybrid professional-development courses on water-resources topics. In his free time, Michael enjoys traveling, backpacking, hiking, kayaking, and aikido. He is pictured to the right in the Himalayas, near the source of the Ganges River.
