M.P. Ahammed: Founder and Chairman, Malabar Gold & Diamonds

M.P. Ahammed, born on November 1, 1957, in Kozhikode, Kerala, is the founder and chairman of Malabar Gold & Diamonds, one of the world’s largest jewellery retail groups. Starting his entrepreneurial journey at 17 in the agro-products business, he later ventured into spice trading. In 1993, with ₹50 lakh from personal and family resources, he founded Malabar Gold, recognizing the unorganized nature of the gold jewellery market. The first showroom was a small space in Kozhikode.

Under his leadership, Malabar Gold & Diamonds has grown into a global brand with over 400 showrooms across 14 countries and revenues surpassing ₹62,000 crore ($7.5 billion). The company produces substantial quantities of gold and diamond jewellery yearly and ranks among the top global luxury goods brands. Ahammed introduced innovations like BIS hallmarked jewellery in Kerala and programs ensuring transparency and customer benefits.

Committed to social responsibility, he directs 5% of company profits to CSRinitiatives, including feeding programs, scholarships, and housing projects. Married to K.P. Subaida, with two children, his son Shamlal Ahammed manages international operations. Ahammed’s vision is to make Malabar Gold & Diamonds the world's leading jewellery retailer by 2030, emphasizing ethical growth, trust, and social contribution. His leadership transformed a single local shop into a global jewellery powerhouse.
