-Cultural and Linguistic Background
Hey guys, I am Zoe and I come from Nanjing, the capital city of Jiangsu province in China. In the past 22 years l have lived in that beautiful city and I speak Nanjing dialect with my friends and family members. Apart from English I can also speak Japanese and a little French.
-Educational Background and Professional Experience
I graduated in Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine and I majored in English which is in the medical direction. We are required to learn about medical knowledge as well as English. I began to teach since I was a sophomore, being a Chinese teacher for Japanese students. These students were mainly adults, from companies like Sharp and Mazda. They were so hard-working, which really impressed me. In my senior year I taught IELTS in an institution near my home. My students were high school students and university students who want to study aboard.
-Institutional Context of My University
In my university most of the students are in medical-related majors. We have a Chinese medicine hospital within our campus. Most of our teachers also work in the hospital as doctors, and my fellow students need to study in the hospital, which is part of their lessons. Students in our university tend to take Chinese medicine and use Chinese medical methods such as acupuncture and moxibustion when they feel uncomfortable. Now I am a postgraduate student in City University of Hong Kong, here we have fellow students from different countries and regions, and I was surrounded by people who speak Cantonese, which is a new experience to me.
-Professional Situation and Goals
Recently I am interested in WHV, which is a kind of visa allowing you to work and have holiday in Australia for a year. I am thinking about applying for it as I hope to experience different social context. However, I am also considering about further study, hoping to have a try in applying for a PHD program, as I hope to go back to Nanjing and be a lecturer in the university in the future. Reality always struggles with ideality, doesn’t it?
-My Hobbies
I like watching Japanese animations and I am interested in Japanese. Though I am now studying English, I want to learn Japanese as well, and I have already decided to take part in the N1 Japanese test. Besides, I like traditional Chinese culture, and that is why I chose teaching Chinese as a part time job when I was a postgraduate student. I hope that I could devote myself into the career of enhancing mutual unde
