MICHAEL MACKENZIE WILLS is the creator/writer/director of Operation Opera, the MAC Award winning Off-Broadway super hit of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe that also played to sell-out crowds at Symphony Space (New York City) in 2012. He was the co-founder, Artistic Director, and Resident Director of Playful Theatre Productions in NYC where Theatre Row and The Currican Theatre was PTP’s home for over 10 years. He has worked with several cutting-edge icons such as Penn & Teller, Blue Man Group, MTV Networks (60 episodes of Before They Were Rock Stars), and FUSE TV. Premiere productions in New York include developing and directing James Gandolfini in Tarantulas Dancing, Liev Schreiber in G-Force, Jamy Ian Swiss in The Honest Liar, Recreation by Penn Jillette, Hunting Humans by Richard Thompson, Fixing Frank by Ken Hanes, and the original NYC production of The Last Session. Regional productions include directing Alan Menken’s A Christmas Carol, Stephen Sondheim’s Putting It Together, The King & I, Guys & Dolls, Fiddler on the Roof, Annie, and Brigadoon - to name a few. He has written the book and lyrics to several children’s musicals including The Adventures of Superbunny based on the bestselling children’s book Thumperino – Diary of a Superbunny, the musical farce A Cow Named Cow, Udderly Opera, and POE: An Introduction to Edgar Allan. He also wrote and directed the “revisals” of Cole Porter’s Fifty Million Frenchmen, Gershwin’s Lady Be Good, and Jerome Kern’s Very Good Eddie for FIPAP (Fire Island Pines Art Project) in support of Broadway Cares Equity Fights Aids. His film GRINCH, won honors at FILMEX, the International Film Festival in Los Angeles. As an actor his favorite roles include: Alexander Blaney in the Robert Aldrich film The Choirboys, and on stage, Garry Lejeunne in Noises Off and Ed Carmichel in You Can’t Take It With You. He has been a member of The Actors Studio since 1992 and belongs to SDC (Stage Directors and Choreographers Society) and The Dramatist Guild.
