Madalyn Berg is a herbalist, artist and educator from Northern California and the founder of The Community Medicine Cabinet. An Oberlin College graduate, Madalyn holds degrees in Studio Art (Hon.) and Biology. She completed the 500 hr. Roots Program at the California School for Herbal Studies in 2014 and Matt Wood's Herbal Apprenticeship Course in 2015.
Madalyn is primarily a sculptor and installation artist, exploring trauma and healing in the context of the body and the ecological and social landscape. Madalyn’s artistic process is informed by her belief that fundamentally art engages with and reflects culture. So does our health care. If we want to build a whole and just community, that mission must be reflected in our art, our social spaces, our health care, our food system, etc.
Madalyn continues to study herbalism and hopes to build a bilingual practice working plants to heal humans and other animals. Madalyn also teaches art classes to children and adults, while maintaining an active studio practice. She currently lives in Santa Rosa, CA with her two cats, Limpet and Mugwort and two of her beloved siblings.
